Metered taxis and booked vans: how the fare works

These meter rates are for Seoul-licensed taxis; Incheon and Gyeonggi night rules differ. No city-boundary surcharge applies to an Incheon Airport → Seoul journey. A base fare is not the total airport fare: distance, traffic and tolls affect the final meter bill.

The airport–Seoul zone fare includes tolls and is charged per vehicle for one journey. It is separate from International Taxi metered city rides, which can carry a 20% foreign-language service surcharge, and hourly charters, whose tolls are extra. Online booking requires at least 24 hours; for an immediate ride, use the airport’s official International Taxi booth.

Seoul standard taxis: T1 5C / 6C / 6D, T2 7C. Deluxe / large taxis: T1 7C / 8C, T2 7D. International Taxi: T1 4C, T2 3C. Use the marked lane for your booked vehicle type.

For a metered ride, use the meter and pay tolls separately. For an International Taxi airport–Seoul zone fare, the agreed price includes tolls; keep the zone and vehicle quote.

Before you start
- Save the accommodation name, phone number, and full Korean address.
- For a known total to Seoul, use the International Taxi zone fare above; for a metered ride, allow for traffic and separate tolls.
- Keep a working card and enough won for a payment fallback.
- Match the district (gu) in the hotel’s Korean address to zones A–E above. Hongdae is B, Myeongdong and Seoul Station are C, Gangnam / COEX is D, and Jamsil is E.
- Give the number of adults, children and suitcases together. A larger vehicle does not guarantee space for every bag. Confirm child seats or wheelchair support before reserving if needed.
Taxi app not working or destination unclear?
- If app setup or verification fails, follow signs to the official airport taxi stand or ask your accommodation to call. Do not hand passport or card details to strangers to fix an app.
- Show the exact hotel branch and road address in Korean. Before leaving, confirm space for people and luggage, card acceptance, the fare method and tolls.
- For an app booking, match the vehicle plate. Check seats and the boot before leaving; keep the receipt or ride record for lost-property enquiries.

Easy points to confuse
- Following an unsolicited driver inside arrivals
- Showing only an English hotel nickname
- Leaving without a receipt or vehicle number
Practical example
Myeongdong is in Jung-gu, zone C: an International Taxi costs KRW 85,000 for standard or KRW 120,000 for deluxe / large, with tolls included. If a separate toll is added to that zone fare, compare the quote and itemized receipt with the published tariff and retain the vehicle number and journey time.
