How to use a Korean convenience store

Convenience stores sell quick meals and supplies, and some branches provide transit-card reloads, parcel services, seating, or appliances. Ask because services vary by branch.

Steps

  1. 01

Bring unopened items to the counter.

  2. 02

Tell staff if a transit-card reload or another service is needed before payment.

  3. 03

    Pay and check the receipt.

  4. 04

Ask whether the food should be heated and which appliance to use.

  5. 05

Take utensils only as provided for the purchase.

  6. 06

Dispose of packaging in the store’s labeled bins if the eating area allows it.

Before you start

  • Check packaged-food labels for allergens.
  • Carry cash for services that may not accept foreign cards.
  • Ask before using seats or appliances.

Easy points to confuse

  • Opening food before payment
  • Assuming every branch offers every service
  • Using an appliance without checking the package

Practical example

Example: a 1+1 drink promotion may require taking two eligible bottles, not paying half price for one. Match the shelf label, take the correct quantity, and pay before opening food. If card reload is unavailable, use a station machine.
