Steps
- 01
Tell staff the party size and wait to be seated.
- 02
Check prices, serving counts, and minimum-order notes.
- 03
Use the table call button once if present.
- 04
Point to the item and state the quantity, then confirm the order.
- 05
Check whether water and extra side dishes are self-service.
- 06
Take the bill to the counter, unless staff brings a terminal to the table.
Before you start
- Save a Korean sentence naming each allergy or excluded ingredient.
- Check for two-person minimum or one-menu-per-person notices.
- Carry a backup payment method.
- Read the price unit: 1인분 means one serving, 100g is a weight, 소·중·대 are size options and 세트 is a set. Ask whether rice, noodles or drinks are included before treating a meat price as the whole meal price.
- Closing time may differ from last orders. If arriving late or dining alone, ask ‘지금 주문할 수 있나요?’ (Can I order now?) or ‘혼자 먹을 수 있나요?’ (Can I dine alone?) before sitting. Check whether you must join a waiting list.
Easy points to confuse
- Assuming every listed price is one serving
- Describing an allergy as a preference
- Waiting for repeated server check-ins
Practical example
Example: two diners ordering samgyeopsal may see a two-serving minimum. Point to the item, order two servings, and confirm the quantity. For an allergy, show the exact ingredient and explain that broth and sauce must also exclude it before ordering.
