Juk rice porridge
죽
- Main ingredients
- Rice or other grain, water or stock; additions vary by porridge
- Flavor and character
- Grains are simmered in water or stock into a soft spoonable meal. Whole-grain and ground-grain porridges have different textures. Abalone, beef, red beans and other named ingredients determine the flavor; not all juk is white or sweet.
- How to eat it
- Ask specifically for plain huin-juk if that is what you want. Abalone or beef porridge is not the same as plain rice porridge. Soy-braised meat or fermented seafood may arrive separately as accompaniments.
