The National Theater was established on April 29, 1950 as Asia's first national theater. It is the only production theater in Korea that creates traditional art into contemporary art. It has a large theater-sized 'Haeoreum Theater (1,221 seats)', a medium-sized 'Daloreum Theater (512 seats)', a small theater-sized 'Byeoloreum Theater (100 seats)', and a round stage structure 'Haneul Theater (627 seats)'. Exclusive art organizations include the National Changgeuk Company, National Dance Company, and National Orchestra of Korea, and are engaging with the public through a variety of new works and repertoire works. Since the introduction of the repertory season system in September 2012, it has been leading the balance and harmony of the performing arts ecosystem as Korea's representative performing arts institution through collaboration with domestic and foreign art organizations as well as exclusive organizations.
