Language, phone or departure getting in the way?

Left something on a subway train? Start with staff at the station where you got off. If you lost a card or phone, block the card or lock the phone first. Use the help below; the existing center and police guidance remains available.

I need language help

Ask a 1330 counselor for tourist interpretation and give the loss time, line, train direction, station where you got off and identifying details. Include the carriage or door number and where you left the item if you remember. Show station staff an item photo if available.

If the center is closed, ask about locker collection

Seoul Metro describes prearranged collection from lockers at center stations, or paid delivery to a chosen station locker. Confirm ownership with the center first and agree on the method, cost and timing. Foreign visitor app verification and payment eligibility still need confirmation. This delivery guidance does not apply to AREX.

Steps

  1. 01

Return to the last location only if it is safe.

  2. 02

Write the item color, brand, marks, contents, and loss time.

  3. 03

If you notice the loss just after getting off a subway train, first visit the station staff office at that station. Look for 고객안전실 or 역무안전실 (also called 역무실), or ask staff at the ticket gates for “유실물” (lost property). Give the exit time, train direction, carriage position and item description. If you have already left, call a center below to locate the item before traveling there. For buses, taxis or venues, contact that operator or venue.

  4. 04

Open ‘Search found items’ and filter by item category, date, region and name. If there is no match, open ‘Report a lost item’. The police portal is minwon24.police.go.kr; select your language in its Language menu. The Korean menu labels are 습득물 검색 (found-item search) and 분실물 신고 (lost-item report).

  5. 05

For a phone or payment card, remotely lock it and contact the issuer.

  6. 06

Verify identity and claim procedure before collecting an item.

  7. 07

Use the Police Minwon24 found-item search and report instructions. LOST112 was integrated into that portal on 26 January 2026. Online language and identity checks vary; if you cannot complete a report, ask station staff or a police station for help rather than assuming an English online report is available. Police enquiries within Korea: 182, charged calls, weekdays 09:00–18:00 Korea time (UTC+9). Check the portal for current contact options before calling from abroad.

Before you start

  • Keep serial numbers and item photos offline.
  • Enable remote lock and location tools for devices.
  • Know the route, vehicle, and last confirmed time.
  • For an item in the airport terminal or common area, contact the correct terminal lost-and-found office. For an item in the cabin or checked baggage, contact the airline; for a bus or train, contact its operator. These are different handling agencies.

Lost something on the subway? Station offices and collection centers

  • Before visiting: confirm that the station or center holds your item, the collection time and required ID. If it has not been found, leave your exit time, station, train destination, carriage position, item description and contact details with staff. You do not need to travel to a center first.
  • The four Seoul Metro centers for Lines 1–8 open weekdays 09:00–18:00, Korea time UTC+9; closed weekends and public holidays. A line number alone does not identify the operator: items found on KORAIL or other operators’ sections may be held elsewhere.

First call or ask 1330 to confirm that this center holds your item and when you can collect it. Inside the station, match the line, floor and Korean sign below.

  • Other operators: for a KORAIL section, start with station staff or foreign-language assistance at 1599-7777 (+82-1599-7777 from overseas, 08:00–20:00, Korea time UTC+9). Seoul Line 9 customer support: 02-2656-0009. Its centers open weekdays 10:00–19:00, closed weekends and public holidays, unlike the Lines 1–8 centers. Ask station staff which center actually holds your item.
  • When a center is closed, report to staff at a station that is still open and search Police Minwon24. Items may move from the finding station to a center and then to police, so use the current holding office shown in the search result. If an item falls onto the tracks, tell station staff where it fell; never go onto the tracks yourself.

Left something in a taxi, train or bus?

  1. Write down the time, boarding and exit points, vehicle or train number, seat and item description. Keep receipts and app ride history.
  3. If cards or a phone are involved, ask the issuer or carrier about protection. Verify any recovery message with the official office, including collection and ID requirements; never send passwords or verification codes.

Easy points to confuse

  • Reporting only ‘black bag’ without details
  • Paying a stranger who claims to have the item
  • Waiting before locking cards or devices

Practical example

Example: for a black bag left on bus 201 around 21:00, record route, boarding and exit stops, time, seat, and distinctive contents. Block cards and remotely lock the phone immediately, then search Police Minwon24 and contact the operator.
