Steps

  1. 01

Use the E-gen pharmacy finder to select your area and obtain the pharmacy name, address and phone. Translate the page if needed, then call to check today’s hours and whether the medicine you need can be supplied before travelling. A map’s listed hours alone are not enough for a late-night trip.

  2. 02

Show the main symptom and when it started.

  3. 03

State age, allergies, pregnancy status when relevant, and current medicines.

  4. 04

Ask what the medicine is for and how much to take.

  5. 05

Check drowsiness, alcohol, driving, and food warnings.

  6. 06

Keep the package and receipt, and seek medical care if symptoms worsen.

Before you start

  • Save medicine ingredient names and doses.
  • Write allergies and important conditions.
  • Know when the symptom began and whether it is worsening.

Easy points to confuse

  • Asking only by foreign brand name
  • Taking products with the same active ingredient twice
  • Using a pharmacy for a medical emergency

Practical example

Example: show the active ingredient, strength, and last dose of a familiar medicine rather than only its foreign brand. Ask the pharmacist to write dose and frequency. For breathing trouble, unconsciousness, or rapidly worsening symptoms, call 119.
